McGrath Diamonds is an independent appraisal service providing professional appraisals. The following type of appraisals are provided:


Insurance Replacement

The purpose of this appraisal is to obtain insurance coverage. It is very important to have all the information described on the appraisal so that in the event of a loss the item could be replaced by a third party that has never seen the item.


Estate Appraisal

The purpose is to determine value for the attorney who is handling the estate for probate purpose. This appraisal is also used by executors or family to divide the jewellery fairly between the heirs. McGrath Diamonds can also help you sort a jewellery collection to determine what needs to appraised and what is of sentimental value.


Divorce

The purpose is to determine and document current values for dissolution of commonly help property.


Estimate to Replace

The purpose here is to determine a value after a loss or theft. This type of appraisal requires the client to furnish photos, receipts, or previous appraisals if available.

If no information is available the client is asked to describe and view catalogues to determine similar items available and from that a replacement value is determined.


What is an Appraisal

An appraisal is a professional document prepared by a trained Gemologist with a thorough knowledge of the jewellery trends and markets.


Your appraisal includes:

  1. The name and address of the owner’s jewellery
  2. A full description of all gemstones to include measurement, weight, colour, clarity and cut quality information.
  3. A full description of the metal quality, the construction, weight, workmanship and any stamps or engravings.
  4. A photograph (upon request)
  5. The date the appraisal was completed
  6. An explanation of all the term’s used – client understanding.
  7. An estimated replacement value of the item.
